How to Apply Promotions to Sales on Tracepos

This guide is designed for POS users, cashiers, and sales staff. It covers how to apply active promotions during checkout and troubleshooting steps if a discount fails to apply.

1. Applying a Promotion

Promotions are applied directly on the POS / Sale screen before finalizing the payment.

Method A: Selecting from the List

Use this method for automatic sales or public offers that don't require a code.

  1. Add items to the cart.

  2. Click the Promotions button/action on the POS interface.

  3. A modal will appear listing available promotions.

  4. Select the correct offer and click Apply.

Method B: Using a Coupon Code

Use this method if the customer provides a specific code (e.g., from an email or flyer).

  1. Open the Promotions modal OR locate the Coupon Entry input field on the checkout screen.

  2. Type the code exactly (e.g., SUMMER10).

  3. Click Apply.

2. Verifying the Discount

Once applied, the POS will immediately update:

  • Line Items: If the scope is Item, you will see the price drop on specific products.

  • Order Summary: If the scope is Cart, you will see a discount line item or a reduced Subtotal.

  • Receipt: The customer's receipt will show the savings clearly.

3. Troubleshooting: Why isn't it working?

If you try to apply a promotion and it fails (or does nothing), check these common issues:

Issue

Check

"Invalid Code"

Check for typos. Codes are often case-sensitive.

"Requirements not met"

Does the cart meet the Minimum Purchase amount?

"Product not eligible"

If it's a specific item discount, are those exact items in the cart?

"Expired"

The promotion end date may have passed.

"Usage Limit"

The promotion may have reached its maximum total number of uses globally.

Wrong Customer

Some promos are restricted to specific Customer Groups (e.g., VIPs). Ensure the correct customer is attached to the sale.

4. Understanding Discount Types for Staff

  • Percentage: Takes a % off (e.g., 10% off).

  • Fixed: Takes a specific dollar amount off (e.g., $5.00 off).

  • BOGO (Buy X Get Y): The system automatically calculates the free item once the required quantity (Buy X) is in the cart.

  • Multi-Buy: The system watches the quantity. If they buy enough to hit a "Tier" (e.g., Buy 3), the price changes automatically.

Conclusion

By following these simple steps, you can ensure a smooth, accurate, and positive checkout experience for every customer utilizing promotions. Quick application and effective troubleshooting of discounts are key to maximizing sales and customer satisfaction with Tracepos.
