Using Multiple Units of Measurement in Tracepos

Overview

Tracepos now supports multiple units of measurement. This means you can manage stock and sell products in different units like cartons, pieces, kilograms, liters, and more — all in one system.
You no longer need to calculate conversions manually. The system handles everything and keeps your stock accurate.

Who This Is For
This feature is useful for:
• Supermarkets that sell in cartons and pieces
• Pharmacies that sell in packs and bottles
• Wholesale stores that deal in bulk and retail
• Any business that sells products in different quantities

What You Can Do Now

  1. Sell in Multiple Units
You can now sell one product in different units.
Example: Sell a carton of noodles or just one piece.
  2. Track Stock Accurately Across Units
When you sell using any unit, Tracepos will adjust the stock in all related units.
Example: If you have 10 cartons (1 carton = 12 pieces) and sell 5 pieces, the system will update both cartons and pieces correctly.
  3. No More Manual Conversions
Tracepos does the math. You don’t need to calculate how many pieces are in a carton or how many bottles are in a pack.
  4. Track Sales by Product Variations
You can also manage units by variation.
Example: You can create a product with three variations:
    • Full Carton
    • Half Carton
    • Quarter Carton
Each of these variations can have its own unit of measurement and price.
You can then use the Unit Conversion feature during stock adjustment to split or combine them as needed.

How to Set It Up

  1. Go to Products under the Inventory Menu
  2. Click Add New Product or Edit an existing one
  3. Choose the Base Unit (e.g., piece(s))

Tip: Always choose the smallest selling unit as the Base Unit. This helps the system track more accurately.

  1. Tick the Enable Multiple Unit checkbox
  2. A Dual Unit Table will appear
  • Select the additional unit (e.g., Carton)
  • Set the Operator to Multiply
  • Enter the conversion value (e.g., 1 Carton = 12 Pieces) so enter 12
  • Enter the selling price for the additional unit (e.g., ₦50,000 for 1 Carton)
Click Add More Units to add other units if needed (e.g., Pack, Bundle) Complete other product fields as usual Click Save

Selling with Multiple Units:
When selling the product via POS or the Sales Module, you’ll see a dropdown. You can choose which unit to sell with (e.g., piece or carton). If you don’t select anything, Tracepos will use the base unit by default.

Using Variations with Unit of Measurement
You can also combine multiple unit support with product variations.

Example:
A single product like “Tissue Paper” can have these variations:

  • Full Carton (48 rolls)
  • Half Carton (24 rolls)
  • Quarter Carton (12 rolls)

Each variation can have its own unit, price, and stock level.
You can manage these by:

  1. Creating the product as a Variable Product
  2. Adding each size under the Variations tab
  3. Setting the unit and price for each variation
  4. During stock updates, use the Unit Conversion tool to break or rebuild the cartons without using decimals like 0.25 or 0.5

This gives you full control over stock and makes it easier to sell in different sizes without errors.

Benefits to Your Business

• Sell the same product in different quantities
• Avoid mistakes with manual conversions
• Keep inventory always accurate
• Save time at the point of sale
• Full control over stock, especially when using product variations
